The Discraft Drone is one of the most overstable mid-range discs you will ever see. This is perfect for any skill-level player and you will realize why there is a fade of 4 on a mid-range. Its strong fade is perfect for flex shots or trying to curve around a structure. The Drone is the perfect disc for anyone’s bag because it doesn’t fly like any other disc on the market due to the amount of overstability it provides in flight.
Speed: 5 | Glide: 4 | Turn: 0 | Fade: 4 | PDGA Approved
This disc has been on the market for quite some time as it was approved for PDGA use on 2/28/2005. That’s over 10 years! My goodness, how has this overstable mid-range not caught on as one of the go-to discs? It’s a very overstable disc with a very slight dome to it.
It’s very surprising not to see this disc made in at least D line or X like plastic, but maybe since Discraft has been exceeding expectations in sales after the McBeth signing we will be presented with some great surprises of the Drone being featured more. To date, 6/11/19 the only plastic-type Discraft is utilizing is one and a special run currently:
A tour player on Team Discraft, Austin Hannum sports a Big Z in his bag since day 1 of playing Disc Golf. He purchased the disc on sale in Austin, Texas and hasn't looked back at any other Mid-Range on the market. Another tour players for Team Discraft, Andrew Presnell bags a Z Drone. It's his favorite disc of all time and uses it for hyzer approach shots. Ability to trust the stability and a consistent fade at the end of the flight is invaluable. When it's windy outside, the disk gets a massive amount of work on the course due to the reliability. If you haven't noticed, both players with Discraft reviews are touring players with massive arm speed.
Here is what Discraft has to say about the disc:
Our friends in windier places love the FLX Drone™ like no other midrange for its ability to fight any headwind and not turn over. Very overstable, best for advanced players and forehand approaches.
- Diameter: 21.5 cm
- Height: 2.0 cm
- Rim Depth: 1.3 cm
- Rim Width: 1.5 cm
WHO BAGS It?
A well-known tour player, Nate Doss has been bagging the Drone for some time. A lot of players switched when the Zone came out, but Nate has stuck with his guns for this mid-range as it has suited him well in the past present and hopefully future.
Multiple other pros use the Drone, but like we said the addition of the Zone has caught the eye of everyone since it’s almost the exact same disc, but being a little more domey. For a beginner/intermediate that’s a great thing, but for experts, they have really been pushing more and more towards very overstable discs. By all means, don’t take this comment as the Drone is not overstable, it’s just there have been some releases that have been.
The full colors are always on point and I purchased all four designs!!!
Very understandable mid. Easy to hyzerflip. Super straight flight with minimal fade if thrown with less power. Gentle, but consistent turn if thrown harder.
Being new to the sport, a friend and myself bought a box to sample different disks and different brands. We were not disappointed as discs (drivers, fairway, mid and putter) from MVP, Axiom and DiscMania were included. Now we have a better idea of what brands we enjoy throwing and the difference in plastics.

Love the Buzzz I received in Titanium plastic. Flies fast and straight and not a mark even though I’ve pinged several trees. Great disc and cool looking to boot!
I use this disc on almost every hole. From 200 in i trust it to stay stable and fade right to the basket, also wonderful forehand disc. Zone and Raptor are must haves.
Great disc! Works well out to 200 ft.
I received at least 5 discs that are staples in my bag. I also received a couple I haven’t found a niche for yet. Then I also received 2 collectible type discs that I will never throw and I don’t really collect so not sure what to do with them…
This Jade is so great. The gold plastic has a great feel, especially in winter, and is a perfect driver for my low arm speed.
Box was very worth it
Everyone talks about the Buzzz being the best Add some straightness to it and you can enjoy tunnel shots with no fear
I bought 2 Surge SS to learn to throw distance drivers. This disc has the perfect flight for Medium speed arms and a great feel in your hand.
hanging on my wall
Nice driver for less arm speed amateurs like me. I don’t have to throw this hard to get it to fly well so it’s more accurate driver for in the woods due to not having to throw hard and focus more on the line
