The Discraft Mantis is a stable Fairway Driver that's reliable and beginner-friendly. It was first released in the 2013 Ace Race in Titanium plastic. The disc is a straight flyer with great glide. It has a low profile that has a slight dome providing what we believe is more than a rating of 4 in the glide category. The excellent part about the Mantis is even if your form is not fully locked in and the disc is not thrown flat out of your hand, this disc does a great job of correcting itself in flight.
Speed: 8 | Glide: 4 | Turn: -2 | Fade: 2 | PDGA Approved
Another disc from Discraft that is suited for the beginners due to the great stability in the disc. It provides great glide with a slight turn and fades at the end of the flight. The ability to fix poor throws and make them look perfect is why it's a young players dream disc. Nobody is ever perfect and we all need help sometimes.
The Mantis got some excellent reviews and players flocked to the disc fast after the ace race in 2013. Discraft has since started producing it in 5 different stock plastics for the disc golf community to choose from. Here are the current offerings for the disc:
A member of Team Discraft who TD's around the world Nate Heinold bags the Z Mantis as his go-to forest driver. Throwing hyzer flips the disk has unforeseen power and loves seeing it turn flat gliding to its trajectory. Nathan Skinner, another Team member thinks about this disc as a longer comet. Odd for someone to compare a driver to a putter, but they are both great for new up and coming players looking to craft there game. In addition, experienced players will love being able to shape shots around obstacles.
Here is what Discraft has to say about the disc:
The Mantis™ is a utility driver for experienced players, and a distance driver for newer players. A touch of overstability enables control at slow or high speeds. Rip it hard for a hyzer flip or "S" distance shot, or hold a straight line at slower speeds. Try Mantis for straight thumber shots too!
