This disc is a Distance Driver that's commonly known as a Control Driver. The Valkyrie is an excellent choice for first drives off the tee for beginners and is excellent for long turnover drives by stronger arm throwers. If you have the ability to choose lighter weights it will increase the potential glide. Choosing lightweight on calm days or if you have tailwinds, it will increase your distance.
Best Choice for: First distance driver, Tailwind drives, Long turnover drives
Speed: 9 | Glide: 4 | Turn: -2 | Fade: 2 | PDGA Approved
This disk was first released by Innova on August, 28th 2000 with an incredible amount of plastic options from the start. It was obvious they had a winner in their hand. A stable disc at release, but would be considered understable later in time with all the overstable discs being released down the road. It's never lost the spotlight as a go-to disc for beginner/intermediate players without the massive arm speed.
Juliana Korver - "This is my favorite driver. It is an incredibly versatile disc for me. It works very well with my throwing style. I tend to throw low and the Valkyrie gets great distance with low thrown shots."
Innova has been producing the disc for over 15+ years and has released throughout the year's special editions and tour series within the Valkyrie family. Here are the current plastics still being produced:
Innova's Review of the Valkyrie
In lighter weights gives new players extra distance. Lighter weights also give players extreme range when thrown downwind, while maximum weights can give excellent upwind distance.
Lets quickly breakdown the flight rating for the disc. A speed of 9 is borderline fairway driver and distance driver. In modern days, it's creeping towards a very understable distance/fairway driver. The lower speed allows for beginners to keep the control giving more precise accuracy. Dropping in a surprisingly low glide score of 4, many use this to their advantage by dropping the Valkyrie exactly where they want it. Again, this disc is all about distance, but never losing the precision. A turn of -2 allows for great curved S type shots while the fade of 2 is gentle but noticeable. In all, the disc is a great choice for any skill-level player. We strongly recommend the Valkyrie for any starting beginner Disc Golfer.
