The Discraft Nuke SS is a distance driver that many consider the younger brother to the Nuke.  So what does the SS stand for in The Nuke SS? Super Straight. The SS discs are made with beginners in there mind or players who don’t have amazing arm speed.  Let’s not get carried away though, this is still a Nuke! This 13-speed driver has a high degree of turn and fades that many compare to the Innova Katana. Make sure you don’t fly this anywhere near Japan, we don’t want history to repeat itself.

Speed: 13   |   Glide: 5   |   Turn: -3   |   Fade: 3   |   PDGA Approved

This 13 speed Distance Driver has given the intermediate/expert Disc Golfers extreme success with max distance throws.  The disc is still on the overstable category, but inching towards being stable. Many players don’t have the arm strength for these massive overstable high-speed discs coming to the market, so it’s refreshing to see an SS design on the ever-popular original Discraft Nuke.

PLASTICS AVAILABLE FOR THE Discraft Nuke SS

The original was a great success and the Super Straight or Super Stable whichever you want to consider it has had the same success if not more.  While the SS is a little less overstable it provides the more casual players with an easier time throwing for max distance. For this reason sales on the Nuke SS have been very good.  When this happens, you called it, they make it in all the plastics they offer. Currently, there are no special edition discs, but we can rest assured they will come in the future. Here are the current offerings for the Discraft Nuke SS:

DIMENSIONS

  • Height: 1.5 cm
  • Diameter: 21.2 cm
  • Rim Depth: 1.1 cm
  • Rim Width: 2.5 cm

WHO BAGS THE Discraft Nuke SS

While we can’t find any Pro Discraft players that bag the Nuke SS, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.  The expert, super-strong throwing arms can handle a more understable disc that makes it more predictable for them.  As for a casual player, however, they don’t have the strength to throw the same type of disc. This is where the SS comes into play and you can still be throwing the “same” disc!

The 13-speed monster is still not for a light-hearted Disc Golfer as any time you go over the speed of 10, you are playing with fire!  It’s going to be trouble handling it for the first time, but once you get a hold of the disc and the ability to throw the Discraft Nuke SS, it will be sure to fly farther than any other disc you have in the bag.  If the original was too much for you, try this one as it will surely be a good fit.

Discraft says this about the Disc:

NUKE SS gives developing players the means to get the distance of more advanced throwers without needing years of experience. You can get very long turnovers at medium speed, or throw your longest rollers ever at high speed! Give it a rip and see for yourself.
